Mission Statement
The mission of Physical Education is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical education as a foundation for a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life.
Middle School PE Overview
The Middle School Physical Education program acts as a bridge to help students make the transition from an elementary school pre-adolescent to a high school young adult. We take the basic movement patterns and skills learned at the elementary level and progress towards more complex movement patterns through repetition and sequencing of drills and game play. Students are engaged in activities that build 21st century readiness skills, including problem-solving, communication, teamwork, self-direction, and leadership.
A portion of each class is dedicated to personal fitness, and students are tested throughout the year for improvement in fitness using the FitnessGram Program.
Technology is used in the PE classroom through Heart Rate Monitors, Pedometers, and fitness programs.
At the end of the Middle School Physical Education program students have a base of knowledge in a variety of activities, including team sports as well as lifetime fitness options, which allow the students to make personal choices in activities they wish to pursue.
