“All I ever needed to know I learned in kindergarten”. Heard that phrase before? Our Richards K5 team thinks there is some truth in it. Kindergarten is such an important time. We are laying the foundation for success in school and in life. Building on children’s natural inclinations to explore, we guide them to discover that learning is within their reach. It is a joyful, playful process.
Our classrooms are busy places where academic goals are met and social learning is equally stressed. We take time to teach positive behaviors and work habits that set students up for what is ahead in school. Teachers are keenly aware of the dramatic growth children experience in this year between ages five and six. Hearts and minds, as well as bodies and muscles, are strengthened.
Teachers are also in discovery mode as we observe how each child learns best. Every child is unique and in every class there is a wide range of ages and abilities. We take joy in coming alongside our students to discern the best way to teach each one. It is our goal to provide just the right kind and the right amount of instruction and nurturing that will help that particular child flourish.
Success in kindergarten, as in any grade, depends on support and awareness at home. We strive to create strong home-school connections and expect parents to stay informed. There are many routines at home that will help your child be a successful student. Kindergarten can be a learning time, for you, too! We know that you are your child’s first and best teacher. We look forward to working together to make it a great K5 year.
